There is a lot of buzz around for the new Apple magic keyboard for IPad Pro that was introduced on the 18th of March. Let’s take a look at the new Magic Keyboard for IPad Pro.
After the iPadOS 13.4, Apple brings trackpad support to iPad, giving users an easier and more comfortable way to interact with their iPads.
As mentioned on Apple website Press release stated, ”Rather than copying the experience from macOS, trackpad support has been completely reimagined for iPad. As users move their finger across the trackpad, the pointer elegantly transforms to highlight user interface elements. Multi-Touch gestures on the trackpad make it fast and easy to navigate the entire system without users ever lifting their hand.”
Design
Back to the Magic Keyboard, it is a floating cantilever design, full-size keyboard with an adjustable viewing angle upto 130 degrees. Further, it has trackpad and most importantly, it has a backlit keyboard which is one of the most important feature missing in previous version. The keys themselves are scissor mechanism that has 1mm travel. The keyboard can also fold into a case which gives protection to front and back of IPad.
The charging port is USB-C that supports pass through charging of the IPad. This also makes IPad own port available for accessories.
The new keyboard will work with previous version of IPad Pro 2018.
Price Tag
The new keyboard will be available for purchase sometime in May 2020. The price tag mentioned on apple.com is as:
USD 299 for 11 Inch
USD 349 12.9 inch
Conclusion
With this hefty price tag, it will be interesting to see what other options will be available from third-party vendors especially from Logitech which has created some best keyboard folio style cases in the past.
In any case, this product looks amazing and it is good to see that Apple manage to add some key features that were missing in the previous version.
